If you have a four wheeler or two wheeler, you must obtain a valid pollution control (PUC) certificate to your vehicle. If you made it, you should also check its expiration date and renew it. If you do not, you will have to pay Rs. Fines up to Rs 10,000 may be required.



In fact, last year the Central Government enacted the amended Motor Vehicle Act. In which penalty of not being PUC has been increased by 10 times. After which, if there is no PUC, the driver will have to pay Rs. Fines up to Rs 10,000 may be required. Earlier this fine was just Rs 1,000.

The vehicle owner is given a PUC certificate upon meeting the pollution control standards of the vehicle. With the help of this certificate it has been shown that the pollution of the vehicle is as per the rule. It does not harm the environment. All vehicles are required to obtain a yuor vehicles valid PUC certificate. The new vehicle does not require a PUC certificate. A PUC certificate is required one year after vehicle registration. It has to be nwe updated from time to time.

The amended Motor Vehicles Act of September 1, 2019 came into force in Delhi. After which the penalty for PUC certificate was increased which is not valid. Earlier, if the vehicle was not a PUC, a fine of Rs 1,000 would have been levied, but after the amended Motor Vehicles Act came into force, it is now Rs. 10 thousand will have to be given. It may be recalled that after a 10-fold increase, there was a sudden increase in congestion at around 1,000 PUC centers in Delhi and the Transport Department issued certificates of 1.4 million PUCs that month.

As per the Supreme Court order, insurance companies will ensure that you submit a valid PUC while renewing the auto insurance policy. Let us tell you, in July 2018, the Supreme Court directed the insurance companies to express concern over the increasing vehicle pollution. The apex court stated that the auto insurance policy should not be renewed until the PUC certificate is issued.
