The Modi government at the Center took a big decision on Wednesday in the interest of farmers. The cabinet has increased the subsidy rate on DAP fertilizer by Rs 700 per bag. Now the price of DAP will be Rs 2400 per bag. Earlier farmers used to get a subsidy of Rs 500. The increase in subsidy will put an additional burden of Rs 14,775 crore on the exchequer. This information was given by the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya.



What was the offer?

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers to increase the nutrient based subsidy rate for phosphorus and potash based fertilizers. This recommendation has been made for 2021-22. Mansukh Mandaviya said in a press conference today that the central government had earlier reduced the subsidy for non-urea fertilizers. This reduced the burden of Rs 22,186.55 crore on the exchequer during the Corona epidemic in this financial year.


Subsidy on fertilizers fell to Rs 18.78

The Fertilizer Ministry said in a statement that it has reduced the subsidy on nitrogen based fertilizers to Rs 18.78 per kg and on phosphorus based fertilizers to Rs 14.88 per kg for the current financial year.

Similarly, the subsidy on potash was reduced to Rs 10.11 per kg, while that on sulphur was fixed at Rs 2.73 per kg. For 2019-20, the subsidy was fixed at Rs 18.90 per kg for nitrogen, Rs 15.21 per kg for phosphorus and Rs 11.12 per kg for potash. Similarly, the subsidy for sulphur was fixed at Rs 3.56 per kg.
