Gujarat Budget 2023: The budget session of the Gujarat Assembly will begin in Gandhinagar on Thursday and the state budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 will be presented on Friday as opposition parties prepare to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on key issues, such as leaking questions about recruitment exams, inflation and unemployment.

The detailed agenda of the assembly during the more than three-week session was discussed at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting on Wednesday, an official release said. This will be the state's first budget after the BJP retained power in the December 2022 assembly elections with a landslide majority and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel returned for a new term.

The BAC session, which decides on legislative matters and other issues related to the Assembly session, was chaired by Speaker Shankar Chaudhary and attended by MLAs of the ruling BJP, including Chief Minister Patel, and opposition members. Separate meetings of MLAs of the opposition Congress and BJP legislature parties will be held later in the day to finalize their respective strategies for the session.

The budget session of the assembly will begin on Thursday (February 23) and end on March 29. Governor Acharya Devvrat will address the gathering on the first day of the session, the report said. On Friday (February 24), Finance Minister Kanu Desai will present the State Budget for the fiscal years 2023-24 in Parliament.

Gujarat Budget 2023 24 Highlights
This will be Desai's third budget in a row. The session will have a total of 25 sessions. Five days are earmarked for discussion of various bills that the government wants to present in the House for discussion and approval, the statement said. The session is expected to be stormy as opposition parties Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said they will raise issues of public importance such as the leak of competitive recruitment exam question papers, inflation, unemployment and farmer woes, among others. The government is likely to introduce various bills, including one with strict provisions to punish those involved in leaking recruitment exam documents.
